Simple ways to bond with your child through play
Bonding through play is not about doing more. Often, it is about joining your child's little world for a few present minutes.
Follow their lead
If your child is stacking blocks, sit beside them and stack one too. If they are scribbling, make a soft line nearby. Copying their play tells them, in the simplest way, that their world matters to you.
Use small rituals
A hello song, a goodbye wave, a favorite color prompt, or a tiny clean-up rhyme can turn ordinary play into a memory. Toddlers love repetition because it helps them feel safe and confident.
Keep it light
Some days your child will join everything. Some days they will observe from your lap. Both are okay. The warmest bonding moments often happen when nobody is trying too hard.
